'Why Sing Goodbye Songs' - Album launch review.
"In 1879, Newcastle inventor Joseph Swan demonstrated his newly invented light bulb, electrifying his audience at the Lit and Phil.  And over a century on, Pete Scott can legitimately claim to have done the same".

Pete recently performed two cracking gigs, the first at Cramlington Folk club, quickly followed by Porter’s in Tynemouth. Porter’s was roofed and could have sold out two nights so two dates have been added at the end of June and the beginning of July.(see gig list). There has been a good response to the new songs and so far  the album, although not yet officially launched, sold well at both venues. Sample tracks can be heard on Pete’s Myspace site while a system to buy  the album online (and back catalogue) as well as downloads will soon be in place.

Gig and album launch
Pete’s new album “Why Sing Goodbye Songs”  will be launched at the Lit And Phil Newcastle on Thursday May 29th at 7-30pm.

He will be doing a live set in the lecture theatre,  there will be drinks beforehand and an opportunity to buy a copy of the new album and have it signed. The venue itself is steeped in history and atmosphere - it’s the place where Joseph Cowan demonstrated the first light bulb! The lecture theatre seats 100 so advance booking is a good idea. For booking details see the gig list.

Track: Big Sam [Radio Newcastle live debut performance 10:01:08]

Pete's new song 'Big Sam' (a remembrance of Sam Allardyce following his departure from Newcastle United this week) got an airing on Radio Newcastle Thursday 10th January. Amazingly this was the same day that the song was written! Massive local interest also led to a spot on BBC 'Look North' on Friday 11th January. Watch this space for the developing story of 'Big Sam'.

Bookings and big response to my show; 'YURI GAGARIN'S BANJO and other stories' as I am touring it throughout the region this spring.

'YURI GAGARIN'S BANJO and other stories'
"It's a little known fact that Russian cosmonaut and first man in space, Yuri Gagarin, was a virtuoso player of the 5 string banjo. The Russian authorities discouraged him from talking about it as they saw the instrument as a symbol of western decadence. They refused to let him take it with him on the flight. While disappointing for Yuri at the time, it was probably a blessing as there has been little or no research into the effects of weightlessness on a banjo. Find out more about this fascinating sub plot to the space race and other tales of the human predicament in Pete's new show 'Yuri Gagarin's Banjo and other stories"

Coming soon to a sheltered venue near you. [see dates]

My next gig in Newcastle is at the Hatton Gallery which is to be found in the quadrangle of Newcastle University on Thursday November 3rd. My friend Carol Clewlow with whom I collaborated on "One for the Money" is launching her new novel "Not Married Not Bothered" and I am doing two sets of songs featuring a fair slice of new material. There is a nominal admission charge of £2 which will be deducted from any books or albums you may wish to buy and there will be a free buffet including wine. Look out for up coming gigs in some nice venues in the region fairly soon. The Hatton gallery show starts around 7:30pm so get there early as a good crowd is expected.

I was just leaving the house to drive to a scheduled gig at Otterburn when the phone rang and I was told the gig was off due to torrential rain. (It was an outdoor event). It was too late to warn anyone and my apologies to anyone who travelled.

Pete will be appearing at St Nicholas Cathedral Newcastle on Wednesday 27th of July in a special concert to mark the departure of the Tall Ships. The concert begins at 5pm and Pete will be joined for part of the show by Judy Dinning. They will be performing a lot of the material featured in their recent concert at Wallington Hall which was such a success. "Singing in a room with such a great acoustic without the need for amplification was a great experience" says Pete. "Better than the usual dives, honky tonks, gin palaces and bordellos who usually book me!"

03/05
I'll be filming some songs with Judy Dinning for the Tall Ships Race, which is coming to Newcastle in July. Danny Holmes on lead guitar. Directed by Geoff Wonfor, on a big North Sea ferry at North Shields March 22nd.
